Making Sense of Things

OVU lost a member of its community last night — a young man who played on the soccer team and was only a sophomore. He was a great guy and will be missed by all his teammates, friends, and the entire Fighting Scot family. As I reflect on the last several hours, I’m trying to make sense of things. It’s hard to understand why people are taken from us so quickly — especially so young. Although I don’t understand everything right now, and may never, I do know one thing — God is in control. God will give peace to our friend’s family and He will bring comfort to the OVU community. And it’s our responsibility to embrace each other in this difficult time and be the human expression of God’s love.

Love each other!

  1. It is such a blessing to be among people who know that God does have a purpose and that he is in control. As I look at this untimely death and reflect back on the other untimely deaths I have witnessed in life, I can see now how people were affected by the various deaths. I know that lives were touched, that had previously seemed untouchable. I know that souls were saved, and I know that God did have a plan. My heart goes out to the students and faculty who were touched by Mario and whose lives have been somehow altered by this event. It is my prayer that each person who is being challenged at this time because of this event can be comforted by the loving touch of God and that they may experience this touch through the love of his children.

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit

  2. I’m so happy to be at a college where everyone truly is a FAMILY! We all were mourning the loss of such a great life, but we all need to remember that God is taking good care of Mario and he is in a better place. A MUCH better place than here on Earth. And even though it hurts when someone important leaves our life, we need to understand that they’re not gone forever. We will see them again someday!!!
