Technology
February 21, 2007

Technology — sometimes I love it; other times…I don’t. Working at a University, I’ve learned more than I ever wanted to know about items like Facebook, IM, and even blogs. I haven’t given up my mechanical pencil and yellow legal pads, but I am trying to adjust. I have a Facebook account, IM frequently, and, [...]

‘Tis the Season…
February 19, 2007

Mid-February is a tough time of year. At Ohio Valley, we’ve just come off of Expressions! weekend, and all the time, energy, sleepless nights, etc. are catching up with our students. Not to mention, it’s still a couple of weeks before Spring Break, and the weather is still a bit cold. All in all, this [...]

Expressions! 2007
February 18, 2007

I enjoyed Expressions! 2007. The Players were hysterical; Colonel rocked the house; the club acts cracked me up; and Donovan, Glenn, and Erin definitely were white and nerdy. Congratulations to all the participants and to the Delta Social Club for winning the sweepstakes.

Alumni Spirit Weekend
February 16, 2007

Alumni Spirit Weekend has arrived! I look forward to watching the Lady Scots and Fighting Scots down Fairmont State in the friendly confines of the Snyder Activity Center on Saturday afternoon. I also can’t wait to watch Expressions! on Saturday night because Dr. Joy Jones (provost) just told me it’s very funny. More than anything else, I [...]

Being Present
February 14, 2007

A friend of mine gave me a book to read today. Because we cancelled classes for the afternoon, I stayed in my office and read the whole thing. It’s an interesting little book about how to bring about positive energy in your life and your workplace. There are four basic pieces of advice: choose your [...]

Tell It Like It Is
February 14, 2007

I just returned home from Charleston, WV, where I spent the afternoon with Shawn, my big brother. Shawn lives in Nashville, TN with his wife and their two daughters. Shawn is 7 years older than me and took his “big brother” responsibility very seriously — in fact, he’s the primary reason that I love to watch and [...]

Supporting Your Classmates and Friends
February 12, 2007

This week is jam-packed with activities. From basketball tonight to Expressions! over the weekend, there’s plenty of opportunity to support your classmates and friends in their various events. In fact, that’s one of the things that I love about OVU — no matter what the activity, our community shows up in full force to cheer. So, [...]

Perspective
February 9, 2007

The recent snow reminded me of my time growing up in South Carolina. I was 5 when we moved there (and 10 when we left), and I couldn’t think of anything better than getting a big snow, hanging out with my big brother (Shawn), and sledding down the massive hills in our neighborhood. I was [...]

Not Tomorrow Yet, BUT…
February 8, 2007

Okay, so it’s not tomorrow yet, but I’m writing anyway to encourage all Fighting Scots basketball fans to cheer on both teams tonight at Parkersburg South High School.

New Blog
February 8, 2007

For those who read the Dean’s Blog, you’ll notice that we switched formats. I hope that this one is easier to read and a bit more intuitive. I’m not great with technology, so having a blog is a major move in my world. I’ll write more tomorrow.
